Region: south America, southern and eastern Brazil.
Habitat: understorey plant; Atlantic rainforest and semideciduous forests; on plains, floodplains and in swamps along the sides of rivers and streams; full sun to the dappled shade of a woodland; moist to wet soil.
Ecology: native birds are very fond of the fruits.
Use: strong fibre; wood for fuel; tree for urban landscaping
BotanyEvergreen tree; dense, globose crown; 5 to 8 metres tall.
Stem: cylindrical; 15 to 25cm in diameter.
