English: Aquatic pygmyweed; Water pygmyweed; Common pygmyweed; pygmyweed.
BotanyHerb; aquatic, partially; succulent; annual plant of salt marshes, vernal pools, wetlands, other fresh to brackish water bodies; forming thin mats or small patches on mud and sand, and growing more erect when exposed to open air for longer periods.
Leaves: greenish-yellow to bright red or purplish; tiny fleshy pointed leaves are only a few millimeters long.
Flower: grows on a short stalk from the intersection of each oppositely-arranged pair of leaves; 2 mm long and wide.
Fruit: minute follicle containing several seeds.
Region: North America and Eurasia.
