English: Lady of the night.
BotanyStems: light green; brittle.
Leaves: alternate; shiny; green, dark green; foul smelling when crushed; 8 to 10 cm long, 2 to 3 cm wide; smooth edges, pointed at both ends.
Inflorescence: clusters at the end of branches.
Flowers: yellow, sometimes greenish; trumpet shaped; 5 to 7 small, triangular petals; 2 to 3 cm long; pungent smelling during the day, sweet in the evening; blooming late spring to autumn.
Fruit: shiny, egg shaped, juicy berries; green when young, black when ripe; dark pulp will stain fingers a purple colour if they are squashed; shrivelled, dull black or grey if still on the bush in winter; 7–10 mm long; with several seeds.
Seeds: wrinkled; prismatic; 3–5 mm long.
