BotanyShrub or small tree; evergreen; 4 to 7 m.
Leaves: entire margin.
Flowers: small, white, very fragrant, with a four-lobed corolla; flowers in early spring.
Fruit globose, dark blue drupe, with a single seed.
TaxonomyFormerly treated as section Leiolea of Osmanthus. Species of Cartrema may be distinguished from those of Osmanthus by the paniculate inflorescences of the former.
