Region: south America, Amazonia in Peru and Brazil.
Habitat: humid forests; sandy, wet floodplains; dappled shade; tolerating seasonal inundation.
Use: medicinal; wood for general construction, ship building, internal applications, cabinet making, general carpentry.
BotanyEvergreen tree; dense, irregularly shaped crown; 8 - 20 metres tall; moderate rate of growth.
Stem: cylindrical; 100 - 220 cm in diameter; wood is medium-textured, irregular-grained, moderately heavy, low susceptibility to rot.
