In the Apg3 classification the Berberidopsidales are placed near Caryophyllales with an unclear precise position.
In the Plant theory Berberidopsidales is placed at the start of the Class Asteranae in its own Subclass Berberidopsididae. The Berberidopsididae have one Order, Berberidopsidales.
The placement of the Berberidopsidales is the least satisfying placement in the Plant theory. The only argument for it is that there is no other satisfying place for Berberidopsidales and that the place of the Hydrogen series of the Asteranae was an empty spot. Added to that Berberidopsidales is relative to Dilleniales but there are no substantive arguments, nor botanical, nor homeopathic. Botanical one would expect aquatics in this position as is the case with the first Subclasses in other Classes like Nymphaeales, Acorales, Ceratophyllales and Halogarales. There is no homeopathic information about the Berberidopsidales. So it might turn out that Berberidopsidales have to placed somewhere else later on, for instance fused with Dilleniales. The question is then how could they find their place here, as the first Subclass of the Asteranae. There are no candidates for them at the moment maybe the Species that fit these conditions have become extinct or have never found a place to flourish.
