Name: from Ancient Greek: arachne or arachnos, "a spider", and thrix or trichos, "hair".
TaxonomyAs currently circumscribed, Arachnothryx is paraphyletic over Cuatrecasasiodendron, Gonzalagunia, and Javorkaea. Phylogenetic studies have shown that Arachnothryx is more closely related to Guettarda than to Rondeletia.
