Polygonatum multiflorum
Year 2022, Issue 2, Article 10PictureAuthor: Ulrich Welte
Polygonatum multiflorum, multiflorous whiteroot.
Clades: Asparagales, LilialesIntroductionPolygonatum multiflorum is much more common than the rarer, fragrant, Solomon's seal, but seems to be similarly effective, see above.Differential diagnosisStreptopus amplexifolius, Twisted Lily: Both chatty, easily distracted, hysterical, relationship problems with religious scruples.
Convallaria majalis, Lily of the Valley, also from the Asparagales group, also with drooping flowers of the same colour that look like bells, also fragrant and flowering in May. A synonym of Polygonatum multiflorum is Convallaria multiflora, although this proximity to the name is somewhat misleading botanically, because the cardiac glycosides of the lily of the valley have not been found in Solomon's seal, as was previously claimed. Polygonatum odoratum has also been given the synonym Convallaria polygonatum by Linné.Literaturehttp://www.bdso..de/pharmazie/index.htm?/pharmazie/biologie/sto;let/terpene/triterpene/steroids/ steroidsaponins.htm.
